Biblical Library--Filled with Contradictions?
As honest seekers and young Christians are perplexed by the wave of radical anti-Christian arguments, there are reasonable and compelling responses from respected Christian thinkers and scholars.
From the inception of Christian life and thought we have Dr. Luke, the Beloved Physcian, who's critics admit was a world class historian. Then there was Thomas, the sceptic, who demanded empirical, sensory evidence for the resurrection. He took the message of Christ's resurrection to India, established a church, and was martyred there for his commitment to Christ. The gifted orator and scholar from Alexandria, Apollos, who carefully and powerfully presented the claims of Christ with authority. Priscilla, one of a number of bright and godly women served in the administrative leadership and highly respected. The representative from the Jewish Supreme Court, Paul of Tarsus, a highly educated anti-Christian theologian, who was radically transformed by an encounter with the resurrected Christ.
When a modern critic of Christianity claims that the biblical account is inconsistent with itself, full of contradictions and cannot be supported by archaeology, they are dismissing these first century witnesses who have impeccable character.
"As I have dealt with one apparent discrepancy after another and have studied the alleged contradictions between the Biblical record and the evidence of linguistics, archaeology, or science, my confidence in the trustworthiness of Scripture has been repeatedly verified and strengthened."
(Dr. Gleason Archer, Ph.D. Harvard, Distinguished Professor of Classical Literature and fluent in 27 languages)
"More than a few critics have no clear understanding of sound hermeneutical principles or even of elementary logical relations, such as contradiction, contrariety, sub-implication and sub-contrariety. As a result, they often charge the Bible with error when it is their own failure to correctly understand logic and to apply sound principles of interpretation."
(Dr. Mark M. Hanna, Ph.D. USC, Professor of Philosophy and World Religions)
