20 Sentence Sermons

Here are 20 quotes from my sermons through the years. They are not original thoughts, but are from my studies and challenges. Some have logical fallacies but the overall tone reflects the Christian worldview. I have been stimulated intellectually, satisfied emotionally and liberated spiritually by my encounter with the Living Christ.

1.  Before you mock a biblical text, study the context carefully then read a commentary from a respected Christian scholar.
2.  When approaching a Being who created 100 billion galaxies, it should be in reverential humility.
3.  Some of the teachings of Jesus are outrageous and offensive, but truth is confrontational and unsettling.
4.  Quoting biblical verses out of context is suicidal: "Judas went out and hung himself", "Go and do likewise."
5.  It is far better to go to heaven alone, than to hell with the crowd.
6.  If you went on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence for a conviction.
7.  The most irresponsible, irrational and illogical concept is that Nobody X Nothing = Everything!
8.  Creation demands that God is a necessary Being.
9.  Jesus speaks directly to the modern-day critics: "You don't know the Scriptures (hermeneutics) or the power of God (metaphysics).
10.  The eternal, uncreated God is the uncaused Cause of the universe.
11.  The authority of Jesus confirms the Hebrew Scriptures as the Word of God.
12. Miracles are not only possible but actual when we observe the cosmos and marvel because the Creator said, "let there be light."
13.  When you turn on a light it attracts all kinds of weird bugs.
14.  Since one-third of the world claims a life changing encounter with the Living Christ, which includes every socio-economic class, we should reconsider the possibility of miracles.
15.  The presence of evil presupposes a perfect, moral standard.
16.  Most of the eyewitnesses were still alive when the Gospel letters were being circulated, so any legends or myths would have been refuted.
17.  When critics claim that God engages in evil, they are really arguing for the reality of a Devil.
18.  The Judeo-Christian worldview stands alone in offering historically verified examples of miraculous events.
19.  For 40 days after Christ's resurrection credible witnesses physically saw him, heard him, touched him and ate with him.
20.  The evidence for the physical resurrection of Christ is so compelling that it is "beyond all reasonable doubt."
