15 WAYS GOD SPEAKS TO US!


The Apostle Paul, a Rabbinic scholar, addressed the Council of Philosophers on Mars Hill in Athens that is recorded in the Book of Acts Chapter 17. In that powerful argument for the Christian faith he states, " God's purpose in all of this was that nations should seek God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him---though he is not far from any of us."

Here are 15 ways that God is close to us and speaks to us if we take the time to be still and listen:


  1. PHYSICAL NATURE: God speaks to us through his creation, day after day, the heavens declare His Glory, the skies demonstrate His marvelous craftsmanship and the plant and animal kingdoms speak of His sovereign purposes.
  2. CONSCIENCE: God speaks through our moral conscience concerning good and evil, right and wrong. He speaks to our hearts and minds, providing enough light to see and follow truth.
  3. GOVERNMENTAL LAW: God speaks through legislators, judges and police to restrain sin, seek justice and love mercy. God also reveals evil in leadership and exposes it eventually.
  4. PASTORAL/SPIRITUAL MENTORS: God provides and speaks to us through gifted and humble preachers and teachers.
  5. DREAMS AND VISIONS: God has spoken to people through this vehicle since the beginning, but it will be a primary method of communication in the final days of history. 
  6. PARENTS AND FRIENDS: God speaks to us through the protection, discipline, counsel and care of family and friends. Remember that God has adopted us into his family.
  7. POOR AND NEEDY: God speaks to us through those who struggle to survive but are rich in faith. When we show hospitality to a stranger, we could be entertaining an angel unaware.
  8. CIRCUMSTANCES: God speaks to us through unexpected moments in the day. God has appointed the times and seasons of our life on earth. A burden often becomes a blessing.
  9. HOLY SPIRIT PROMPTINGS: God speaks in gentle ways about our sin, our need for righteousness and the reality of eventual judgement. He speaks to the Christian as a counselor, encourager and care provider.
  10. THE WORD OF GOD: God speaks to us through documents and letters of His purpose, plan and program of redemption and restoration of all creation. The 66 books of the Biblical library speaks throughout history and to the issues of each day of our lives.
  11. PAIN AND SUFFERING: God shouts out to us in our suffering to have our undivided attention. God speaks of endurance, eternity, hope, perfection that he will be sharing at His appointed time with us as we identify with Christ.
  12. PLEASURES: God whispers to us His joy, beauty, peace, freedom and love in these moments.
  13. THEOLOGICAL/SCIENTIFIC SCHOLARS: God speaks of his wisdom, insight and understanding through brilliant and gifted individuals like, Augustine, Aquinas, Pascal, Newton, Kepler, Kierkegaard, Lewis, Collins and McGrath among countless others who contend against the skeptics.
  14. ENEMIES OF GOD: God speaks to us and challenges us to a deeper walk through those so-called intellectuals of the world who mock and scoff at the metaphysical realities that blind them.
  15. CHILDREN: God speaks to us through the loving trust and dependency that a child demonstrates to their parents. Oh, that we would have that same trust in our Heavenly Father.
