BETWEEN SODOM AND GOMORRAH

 CHILDHOOD

I grew up in Pismo Beach, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. As kids, we would joke about living between Sodom to the north and Gomorrah to the south. As young adults, attempting to follow the Jesus Way, we started to grieve about those cities and our culture.

When I studied Psychology at the university, homosexuality was still described in our textbooks and the DSM as a mental disorder. Suddenly, in 1973 the Behavioral Board removed it as a mental disease. Many of us reviewed the studies and found major research flaws. The studies did not consider reproductive biology, physiology or anatomy as natural factors. The complimentary blueprint for the male and female relationship was dismissed.

BIBLICAL MORALITY

    TORAH LAW

The list is specific and long concerning sexual purity. Pornography, lust, incest, rape, bestiality, pre-marital sex, adultery and homosexuality are prominent along with some 30 other familia forbidden relationships. The sanctity of sex within the protection of marriage was demanded by God. Violations were a capital offense.

The Egyptians and Canaanites practiced all these sexual perversions. The Jewish conquest was to eradicate this debauchery from the land. God was patient for over 400 years before judgement was enacted. That is why a complete genocide was necessary.

THE SIN OF SODOM AND GOMORRAH

The prophet Ezekiel lists four primary reasons for their destruction. They were 1. Arrogant 2. Gluttonous  3. Unconcerned about the poor and needy  4. Detestable sexual acts.

THE JESUS WAY

Jesus was a Torah observant rabbi who affirmed the sanctity of sex within the protection and provision of the male/female relationship. That is the only sexual expression that he proclaimed to be holy and pure.

THE APOSTLES TEACHINGS

It is clear and specific what the Apostles listed as immoral. Greed, lust, pornography, pre-marital, adultery, homosexuality, drunkards and incest affirming the Torah and Jesus Way.

THE ATTITUDE OF LOT

The apostle Peter describes Lot as a righteous man who lived in Sodom. He was distressed and tormented by the sexual perversion and lawlessness he observed everyday.

THE ROAD TO DEPRAVITY

First, we tolerate evil. Next, we accept evil. Then we legalize evil. Now, we celebrate evil. Finally, we mock and persecute those who call it evil.
